Spyke & Mike: A New Year’s Cackle

Spyke & Mike: A New Year’s Cackle
Hey there my BTR friends. Welcome to 2022. Time for Mike and I to make yearly resolutions which we really try to keep. I must say though, Mike sets his sights pretty high to spend less, waste less time, and eat less. He usually shoots himself in the foot late January or early February. Me, on the other hand, go for the little things that I can stick to like: not complaining about the amount of nuts he gives me, not squawking loudly scaring my fans, and not pooping on the Fat Bird when he takes me out for a…

Santiago Chopper – TRIBUTE TO THE ISLE OF MAN – GUZZI OF MAN
Santiago Chopper_Guzzi of Man Motorcycle Two years ago I did my first Guzzi cafe racer, and I fell in love with the Guzzi sport. It was something very different and the mechanical aspects of this Italian bike are incredible—the power and torque of this engine are so cool. The customer saw an article about my Guzzi Memphis in a French magazine, and he contacted me to build this bike. He gave me total control over the project to create something original … and a very nice budget too! The bike will be delivered to the French Riviera; let’s call the…

TT Isle of Man – The Greatest Show On Two Wheels
Shift through the gears as fast as possible, tuck in the elbows and get behind the windshield ... hard on the brakes, downshift 3 gears and look out for the stone wall on the left. Accelerate out of the curve and watch for the telephone pole... take a deep breath as you come down the hill at 150mph and go airborne! Try to keep the bike level when the wheels come down and remember to stay to the right, never the left. Do this for 37 miles and then repeat it five more times while avoiding buildings, fences, poles and…

Turkey Day Delirium

Turkey Day Delirium
We’re into that frightful fourth Thursday month my BTR friends. Even though it’s only one day, the preceding weeks are scary times for me and my cousins. November is synonymous for many things; cooler weather, breaking out the riding leathers, the start of snowbird season and that dreaded turkey day known to you humans as Thanksgiving. You're not going to get any thanks from me or my feathered family. The changing of the leaves lets us know that it’s time for the chopping of the heads that we all have nightmares about. There’s nothing worse for us fowl than to…

In case you haven’t seen the memo, ‘lifted trucks are the new black’. Long gone are the days that pick ups were only thought to be driven by farm hands, cowboys and construction workers. Lifted Trucks are as mainstream and American as ‘baseball, hotdogs, apple pie and chevrolet’ and we know just the man to help you get that ‘oh so perfect’ ride height for your cargo crawler. Meet Jeremy Braer of Fidelis Automotive. Jeremy Braer has the confidence and the skill set to get things done quickly, effectively and correctly when it comes to not only lifting trucks, but…

Are You an Idiot? Nefarious James on Giving Thanks
Well, Yee-haw! Here we are in November. Almost the end of another year. So I sit here thinking to myself about the month of November. It happens to be the month that we celebrate Thanksgiving. A holiday for which we celebrate the obvious, and that is… thanks. It could be thanks for many things. Happenings that have gone on or just being thankful for being alive. Read any posts on social media and we will see how many people and loved ones others including ourselves lose every day. So that being said, take a moment and think about all of…

THE RIDE – WHAT WOULD YOU DO AT AGE 19 GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO COMPLETELY RESET YOUR LIFE?
Here’s what I did. I quit my disappointing construction job and hit the road on my 2020 Harley-Davidson Softail. The 8,000-mile cross country adventure began, as I was destined to encounter some of the most beautiful places in the country for the very first time. This is the opportunity given to me in August 2021 and boy did I take it! I started west of Atlanta and worked my way Northeast with two other riders and no destination in sight, no deadline, just “The Ride,” and nothing else. Riding through Blueridge and Appalachia country gives such a good picture of…

Bad Day At The Quickie Mart
Hey, hey, my BTR friends. I was just chatting with Mike, hanging out in the sanctuary at Paradise, watching the birds fly over the Lanai and wondering if they really get any enjoyment out of all that flapping. A few months ago he took me to the beach to practice my hanging eight in the surf and try flying in the Gulf breeze. I’ve been surfing for a while and getting pretty good at it but, the flying part is for the birds. I kept crash landing and getting a beak full of sand. I just don’t know why they…

Think For Yourself – Nefarious James
Here we are in October and one of my favorite times of the year. Heading into fall with cooler weather, and of course, Halloween coming up. With colder weather moving in around the country, it’s time for some of us to start planning whether to winterize our bikes for the cold weather or to figure out what we’re gonna wear to stay warm. I for one ride all year round so I guess that doesn’t really apply to me. I know others that follow suit but we are fortunate with our weather down here in Florida. I think we are…

Welcome to the awesome October issue of Born To Ride! Autumn is here and there’s nothing like a ride in that crisp autumn air. Hey, last month we held one helluva a bike show. September 10th through the 12th was the Blue Ridge Run in Cherokee, North Carolina, where the Cherokee Blue Ridge Run Born To Ride Choppertown Ride-In Show kicked some serious butt! If you were there, you know there were some amazing custom choppers on display. Classic Easyriders magazine photographer Brad Patton was on hand to shoot all those bikes and maybe even YOU! Squawk on the Wild Side – Spyke & Mike
Holy crap my BTR friends, it's still hotter than donut grease at a fat man's convention! When Mike makes me poop and it hits the sidewalk in the sun, those turds just sizzle like carnival elephant ears! September used to be the start of cooler weather, but I don't think Mother Nature sees it that way. Undoubtedly for the past decade, she's been disregarding the Labor Day weekend/end-of-summer ritual by staying on an extra-long vacation in Hades. Of course some are blaming the exceptionally hot days and global warming on the release of greenhouse gases and raising the sea level.…

Don’t Believe Everything You Read
How in the world do we even know what to believe anymore? It unfortunately appears that we are surrounded with so much misinformation that it is hard to tell the truth from the lies and the fairytales. It’s like when you ask that new rider how long he’s been riding and he’ll either tell you he took his first cross-country trip on his 1947 knucklehead when he was younger or that he grew up riding dirt bikes. Then you watch him leave the parking lot, and he almost dumps his bagger on the ground. Hearing honesty out of people has…

Rise Again – Just as the Phoenix rose from the ashes, so too will Sabrina Best.
Humankind is at its best when it takes a personal tragedy and turns it into a way to help others. Such people rise above the pain and sorrow of loss to create an enduring legacy. One such person is Heather Cooper, who lost her daughter Sabrina to a Fentanyl overdose last year. Rising above her grief, Heather created the Sabrina Best Foundation to provide support to women and their families in an effort to obtain quality treatment programs, recovery housing, and counseling for addiction. Born To Ride is a proud sponsor of the Sabrina Best Foundation and Rise Again’s 2nd…

Respect & Honor Starts at Home
Well, here we go with August. As always hot and miserable but we get out there and ride our bikes anyway. Time for Sturgis, road trips and parties that revolve around the idea of not being able to afford to go to Sturgis. We want to hold events praising America and stating how proud we are to be Americans, while at the same time, we have individuals out there disrespecting our country, troops, first responders and veterans. Organizations gathering out there that hold the belief that way to get respect is to be heard. Not by proper actions or popular…
