Three-Wheeled Vehicle Classification
Three-Wheeled Vehicle Classification Three-wheeled vehicles such as the Slingshot and Can-Am Spider are becoming more popular, and thus more questions have arisen about classification, licensing, and helmets. In July 2018, the Dept. of Public Safety Legal Review sent out the following information: O.C.G.A. 40-1-1(29) defines a motorcycle as every motor vehicle having a seat or saddle for use of the rider and designed to travel on not more than three wheels in contact with the ground, excluding a tractor, all-terrain vehicle, and moped. Therefore, these vehicles are generally considered to be motorcycles. Despite the general classification of a Slingshot as…

Stopping for School Bus Changes in Georgia
Summer is officially over for thousands of school kids. Now that school is back in session, drivers need to be alert for kids and buses on the roads. On July 1st, Governor Nathan Deal signed House Bill 978 into law. House Bill 978 helped set up automated speed traps in school zones, but in one paragraph it also amended the law for driver's passing school buses. Before, only a grass or concrete median meant drivers heading in the opposite direction didn't have to stop. Now, in addition to a median, if there's a turn lane present when a bus is…

Copperhead Lodge and the Great American Biker Bash
GREAT AMERICAN BIKER BASH AT COPPERHEAD LODGE by Paul Murray I have been through Blairsville many times, having ridden the roads in the North Georgia mountains, but I have never had the pleasure of staying at the Copperhead Lodge, eight miles west of Blairsville. It is a biker-oriented lodging that offers cabin-style homes that you can purchase or rent, complete with bike garages. It also provides accommodations at the beautifully designed lodge itself that has a full restaurant and bar. It was specifically designed as a bike-friendly place to stay while you enjoy your ride through the mountains. The second week…

Dirty’s Trouble Maker, Josh Kurpuis

Dirty’s Trouble Maker, Josh Kurpuis
I built this bike with the premise that I could barhop and smoke anyone light to light, or hop on and go 1,000 miles on the weekend. Happy to say ... have done both! That’s the good part of the story. The first build of this bike was slightly different, Denver’s springer, magneto, and a few other differences. On the way to Smokeout East, I pulled into JW’s place in Wilson, NC and the throttle stuck— launching me into the woods!!! Missed most of the trees! However, the last tree really de-raked the front end. Trailered it the last 50…

Born To Ride Women’s World Open Road Girl-Sandy Weaver, Story By: Myra McElhaney
Riding Fearlessly By Myra McElhaney Sandy Weaver rode on her brother’s dirt bike when she was a kid. When riding at the dirt track with the boys she hit a patch of sand and dumped the bike. Her dad rescued her, and despite the fall she still thought riding was cool! At age nineteen Sandy moved to Washington, DC where she had a sports car and sometimes rode on back of a boyfriend’s bike. She really wanted to drive her own! When that boyfriend was history and she was just about to buy a motorcycle, Sandy met a new man.…

Born To Ride Women’s World Open Road Girl-Melinda Johnson, Story By: Myra McElhaney
When Melinda Johnson was in her 20’s she rode on back of her boyfriend’s bike. When that relationship ended she was a single mom with two teenagers, working a full-time job, and various part-time jobs— such as cleaning offices and selling Avon and other direct marketing products. There wasn’t much time to think about riding, but she did miss it. Later when dating a new guy, she mentioned that she’d love to ride her own motorcycle and he said, “Why not?” They bought bikes together and then she signed up for the rider course. Melinda started riding around the neighborhood…

Craven Moorehead – MAY I SEND YOU A MESSAGE?
MAY I SEND YOU A MESSAGE? With all the recent activity in my life, it becomes unusually difficult for me to enjoy just hanging out or being my usual rotten self. I have been constantly reminded of my degenerate lifestyle and lack of reasonable income, plus the fact that no matter what I do, some kind of crap comes up that prevents my happiness and success. Well, not really. I mean, it could be worse - much worse. Here’s an example: I had to go to the office today to do some business and when I left there, RT60 was…
