MOTORCYCLING IN THE 1970S by Richard Skelton
Motorcycling in the 1970s' is a series of five eBooks about motorcycling. The books are designed to be read together, but can also be enjoyed separately. The first volume, A Brief History of Motorcycling from 1887 to 1969, is a general history, swiftly told, of motorcycling in Britain from its beginnings at the end of the 19th century up until the dawn of the 1970s (interwoven to an extent with two-wheeled goings on in the USA and elsewhere). It charts motorcycling’s pioneering years, skips through two world wars, tells of social acceptability in the 1920s, hard times in the 1930s…

Craven – Where has the Time Gone?
Where has the Time Gone? I sit here in the trailer park writing a piece of prose that has nothing to do with the magazine or anything that my dedicated readers would be interested in whatsoever. My rants and raves are likely of no interest to any of ya’ll and it’s rare that I get a chance to simply sit down and express my true feelings. I keep these feelings to myself. All I can do is think back on the past and remember some of the good times that I had out on the open road. An adventure always…

Motorman’s Mean Streets – Are You Really Proficient on Your Motorcycle?
Are You Really Proficient on Your Motorcycle? Last week at my Ride Like a Pro class a student asked how long I’d been teaching the Motor Officer techniques. I replied, about 16 years. The student stated, “Wow, I bet you’ve seen it all.” I thought about that for a moment and decided he was right. I have seen it all when it comes to the crazy weird and just plain dumb things people do when trying to learn to ride a motorcycle with skill and confidence. Keep in mind, the course I offer is an advanced skills course and I…

MSF – Street Strategies at Work
Street Strategies at Work THE SHARK Imagine a typical scene from a nature-network documentary, one that shows a fur seal frantically swimming with a great white shark in ruthless pursuit, the huge snout of the shark filling the television screen. In the corresponding street scene, you’re riding your motorcycle down a wide arterial street when a huge sedan closes in on you, its grille filling your mirrors. Just as you change lanes to get out of this car-shark’s path, the tailgater also changes lanes behind you. What are your best strategies for avoiding (or evading) this situation? Strategy: As soon…

Spyke & Mike – Beep Beep Old Man
Beep Beep Old Man I hope y’all enjoyed the mild weather and did a lot of riding in the last month, my BTR friends. Both Gibtown and Thunder by the Bay were off the chain! If we’re lucky, Old Man Winter will stay away giving us more pleasant temperatures and no rainfall for Daytona. Mike stumbles past the sliding glass doors and onto the lanai. He turns to me and says, “Hell yeah! That's why we live here. I’ve grown old and can’t endure the cold, among other things. Speaking of which Spyke, take a moment from your basking in…

Biker Movie Review: Hell Ride

Biker Movie Review: Hell Ride
This month’s Movie Review: Hell Ride Confusion and chaos pretty much sums up this movie. It is the modern day version of all the biker exploitation “B” movies ever made. Curiously, Larry Bishop (as Pistolero) appeared in a variety of films including The Savage Seven, Mad Dog Time and Kill Bill to name a few. His collaboration with Quentin Tarantino in this most recent effort, would lead one to believe that “Hell Ride” is a major cinematic production destined for the A list. Sadly, it falls short of that mark. The story revolves around Pistolero and his gang “the Victors.”…

Spyke & Myke – It’s Thanksgiving and Mike is at it Again
It’s Thanksgiving and Mike is at it Again Check this out my BTR friends. After Mike’s mini electrocution at the Moorehead compound last month, he is slowly recovering to his abnormal self. It’s been three trips to the dentist to correct the fillings that melted, four trips to physical therapy to get some feeling back in his leg and butt cheek, and the ophthalmologist says his eye twitching will go away in years to come. … Me, I’m glad this pic isn't the before and after shot had I not fallen off the scooter seconds prior to Mike’s zapping. Check out Mike’s latest epic failure my BTR friends. Craven invites Mike and me over to the Moorhead compound to check out his state-of-the-art theft deterrent system. Mike was all up for that as he is always looking for new ways to protect me from being stolen. We cross the big bridge and wind our way through the darkest parts of Temple Terrace and pull into the trailer park. Mike rolls up to the entrance of the Moorhead lot. The driveway is filled with trucks missing wheels, a van missing the back doors, and a couple of motorcycles missing various…

Do you simply expect to go to bed, wake up, and repeat it all over again day after day after day? STOP! Life should be a passionate adventure that is full of meaning and excitement.
