An Amazing Year-In-Review
As I’m writing this, I’m reflecting on what an astounding year 2018 was, both in motorcycling and in my own life. The memories, experiences, and stories come rushing back into my mind, and I’m grateful for each one. The MIC report that showed women riders in America is up to 19% is fantastic news, decades in the making. The “Give A Shift” initiative, among others, to encourage more people to take up motorcycling is showing signs of having a positive effect. The legendary Royal Enfield Motorcycle Company has entered the American market, and all of the major brands are stepping…

Mr. Bikefest

Mr. Bikefest
Trying to determine the exact point where Mr. Bikefest was created is tricky. Ron was always an entertainer; he created a fun and welcoming atmosphere everywhere he went. His personality combined with a passion for conquering new challenges means he was always getting into something. The defining moments leading to Mr. Bikefest started in 2001. My dad and I had just finished the 1941 flathead and decided to debut that beauty at Daytona. With no preparation and little knowledge about that famous beach town, it was by chance that I entered and won the Daddy Rat ride in bike show.…

“A Biker’s Love Affair: A Story of Salvation”
“A Biker’s Love Affair: A Story of Salvation” By Dolores Elam A cancer diagnosis. A fire. The death of a beloved spouse. Anyone of these would be enough to make someone question their faith, but after experiencing all three in the past two years my faith is stronger than ever. I’ve claimed my miracle and every day I see the undeniable presence of God. It started on February 5, 2015, when my husband Wayne was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. I slipped my hand into his and squeezed as we walked out of the hospital. The doctors told us…

Brandon Robinson to Return to Kennedy Racing in 2019
PHOENIX, AZ. (January 3, 2019) - After a two-year absence, Kennedy Racing is returning to the 2019 American Flat Track (AFT) series in the AFT Twins presented by Vance & Hines class. With veteran rider and proven race winner Brandon Robinson, and former AMA Pro Racing Tuner of the Year Brent Armbruster, the team already poses a formidable threat to other AFT Twins competitors.   "Having a realistic shot at winning the 2019 AFT Twins Championship is the only reason we put this team back together," said Jerry Kennedy, team owner of Kennedy Racing.   Kennedy Racing will compete on…

American Patriot’s 1-3-19
American Patriot's   We have successfully reached the year of our Lord 2019 and hopefully this year we, as a nation will be able to successfully navigate the pitfalls, we have seen in years past. This year I pray we come back together as a united nation, wherein we deal with the problems we, ourselves, have made. Sadly, our nation’s oldest veteran Richard Overton who reached the age of 112 years passed away last Thursday. He was born in Bastrop County, Texas in 1906 and served in the US Army’s all black 1887th Engineer Aviation Battalion from 1942 to 1945.…

My wish for CHRISTmas

My wish for CHRISTmas
My wish for CHRISTmas   Now that I have reached and exceeded the age of 70 years my wishes for Christmas have changed dramatically. Instead of the usual gifts of tools, sports equipment or clothing I have finally decided I wanted something even better. Peace on Earth and goodwill toward all.   I know I’m living in a dream world hoping what I wish for at Christmas comes true.   Our world and country are driven by power, greed and narcissism over and above what we can ever imagine.   In my world, be it ever so small and simple,…

SAFE ZONE Speed kills… and so does slow

SAFE ZONE Speed kills… and so does slow
As a motorcycle riding instructor, I follow the curriculum and never advocate speeding. As a street renegade rider and a realist, I realize that if you don’t speed at times, a vehicle is likely to run over your butt and your bike. In my dreams, I imagine a small town (with a name like Gooberville) where a biker can ride without feeling like he’s the last target at a gun range. But I live in South Florida, number one in road rage for the third consecutive year, where I count acceleration as one of the most important actions I can…

Edel Weiss Lite : A Three-Day Adventure in South Africa
As I climb out of my comfortable bed in the dark before dawn, the adrenaline coursing through my veins has any triple shot at Starbucks beat. Scratching around with a 20-watt side lamp, I want to make sure nothing is left out of my camera bag. As I am stepping out into the cool, morning air, daylight is tearing the black curtain behind the distant mountains revealing a mouth-watering display of color. Lights are on in the row of small cabins in front of me. I hear voices floating across the African landscape as excited as I to start this…

U.S. Senate Passes Motorcycle Profiling Resolution The U.S. Senate unanimously passed Res. 154, a measure which "promotes increased public awareness of motorcycle profiling, encourages collaboration and communication with the motorcycle community and law enforcement to engage in efforts to end motorcycle profiling, [and] urges state law enforcement officials to include statements condemning motorcycle profiling in written policies and training materials."   Basically, the resolution declares that law enforcement should not treat citizens differently because they ride motorcycles or associate with motorcycle riders. One example of this took place in 2015 when bike-only checkpoints were eliminated. Although the vast majority of…

Suzuki Ceases Production of the Legendary Hayabusa
Suzuki Ceases Production of the Legendary Hayabusa Suzuki Motorcycles has announced the cessation of production on their legendary GSX1300R Hayabusa sportbike, after a 20-year model run. The announcement came as a surprise to some (author included), amid speculation that Suzuki would actually soon debut an upgraded model. This is truly the end of an era in the world of +1000cc Superbikes, or as one writer called them, “Hyperbikes.” Since its premiere back in 1999, the Suzuki Hayabusa has been a dominating force of a street bike, leaving other manufacturers chasing shadow and exhaust for years.
