Spike and Mike
Hey there, my BTR friends. It's that time of year for cooler weather, the leaves to fall off some trees, and the colors of license plates in Florida to change. Speaking of changing, Mike must be feeling like a chameleon this month. One minute he is protecting himself with a mask and imitating me, the next he's trying to be The Captain. You know, that dude on a bottle of rum. He babbles, "Avast ye matey, there ye be, me scurvy winged little buccaneer. Come with me and let us pillage and plunder on the weekend of All-Hallows Eve. Thy…

Ride your own Ride – Nefarious James
Well, October is upon us and thank goodness for that. It means 2020 is going to come to an end soon. Not soon enough if you ask me. Along with October comes Halloween and maybe Biketoberfest. Love Halloween. This year everyone has a costume. Just don’t wear a mask. Bad joke I know, but it seems appropriate. With that said, I want to comment on the goings on I’ve been seeing lately. There are way too many accidents/incidents involving motorcycles and even worse with fatalities. Snow birds are starting to flock our way and it’s that time of year to…

John Shopes Dirty Bird Concepts – Worlds Best Boss Gives Super Surprise
Hot on the heels of his success at creating oneof-a-kind custom baggers at Dirty Bird Concepts in Phoenix, Arizona, motorcycle mastermind John Shope came up with the next great idea: the Dirtytail. These Softail-based customs not only look incredible, they do the one thing that no stock Softail has ever done, namely, offer decent handling. “These bikes are something I’m very proud of,” John says. “They are comfortable and handle really well.” The Dirtytails can convert the entire Softail line, From Evos to M-8’s, into the motorcycle of your dreams. And they can be designed in a variety of looks,…

Did you know that three out of every four Americans believe in ghosts and the paranormal? It’s true. Miranda Young, also known as the Ghost Biker, knows this better than most. Miranda has always been interested in the paranormal for as long as she can remember. As a child, you could find her in the library reading books about ghosts and folklore. Her role on the team consisted of being the photo analyst, video/audio evidence producer and marketing specialist, as well as investigator. While…

4 THINGS TO HELP YOUR FAMILY IF YOU’RE INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT
When a serious car or motorcycle accident occurs, it is often a family member or significant other who is contacting an attorney on behalf of the injured party. Below is a list of information to keep up to date and share with your family member or significant other. 1. Medical Insurance: Provide your emergency contact with the name of your insurance company and your…

READER’S RIDE – LUNGER, Tom Russo’s Motorcycle Tribute to Doc Holliday
All bikers love westerns. It’s just a fact. Retired Lawman Tom Russo has a warm place in his heart for Val Kilmer’s characterization of Doc Holliday in the film Tombstone. This one-of-a-kind tribute to the film took a little over a year to complete. In the film, Doc Holliday died from tuberculosis and at the time, someone who suffered from this disease was called a “lunger”, hence the name of this bike. Eric Barnes, owner of Airbrush Art USA in Gulfport, Florida, painted this 2019 Harley Street Glide with incredible attention to detail and a strong understanding of the themes…

Real Pipes for the Low Rider S – Two-Into-One from Thunderheader
Even though there are a bazillion people out here in Southern California where I live, we can think of lots of good reasons to be one of them. Those positive reasons are called canyon roads! And these roads have created a red hot used-bike market for Harley’s 2017 Low Rider S. Most of the bikes that Harley built on its Dyna platform handled very well. Then, with the introduction of the 2017 Low Rider S, aka FXDLS, Harley took the Dyna label to a whole new level of performance. For the ’17 FXDLS models, Harley added the Screamin’ Eagle 110…

When will it be your turn?
When will it be your turn? When will the Reaper knock on your door, put out his hand and demand his payment. One day you will stand before him for that payment. For decades I have been riding my motorcycle around the country. I’ve experienced a ton of stuff. I’ve been to a lot of events, traveled countless miles, and met incredible people. With all of this, I’ve experienced great joy but recently, I’ve also experienced horrific life-altering sorrow. Over the years I have spoken many times on a topic that I’m sure many of you are tired of hearing…

I’ve seen him hang off the back of a speeding pickup truck to get just the right photo of a custom motorcycle as a pack of bikers roar down the highway right behind him. His photographic documentation of such renowned…

BAD COMPANY – A Kyle Ray Rice work of Motorized Art
This issue’s Reader’s Ride belongs to Kyle Ray Rice. The 27-year-old grew up in a motorcycle-riding family in Florida. His mom is into dirt bikes and his dad loves anything to do with bikes and cars. Kyle started riding at the tender age of three (with training wheels of course). Pretty soon the entire family was riding dirt bikes together. He bought his first sport bike at age 18 but was always into Harleys. “I went to the Webster Swapmeet in 2016 and found this 108 cubic inch Shovelhead motor,” Kyle recalls. “It came with a touring tranny and the…

BIKER HISTORY PART 1 – How the Motorcycle Culture Began

BIKER HISTORY PART 1 – How the Motorcycle Culture Began
Ever wonder how the whole biker lifestyle got its start? Well, it began with servicemen returning from World War II who bonded together over the love of motorcycles. You see, by 1934 out of nearly 300 American Motorcycle Companies that were created from around 1900, only two remained in business, Harley-Davidson and Indian. At the depth of the Great Depression, Harley-Davidson pulled out all the stops to stay alive. Luckily they continued to sell motorcycles to the police departments across the country. Over at the Indian camp, the new President, Mr. du Pont was fighting to survive and doing an…
