Explore Homosassa River in Citrus County

River Safaris & Gulf Charters is located at the epicenter of the Homosassa River. They have Airboat Rides, Pontoon Rentals, Private & Semi-Private Scalloping Tours, Manatee Tours, Treehouse Rental & Even Live Alligator feedings! Captain Susan Bogart & Jim Miller, the caretakers of this beautiful property are known as Mama & Papa River.

Take a Tipsy Tiki tour (a floating bar BYOB) up the river or a Fast Airboat Ride with Captain Irish Dave! Encounter wildlife such as egrets, a bald eagle in its nest, dolphins, sea turtles & even monkeys! Homosassa River is home to the famous Monkey Island.

While on the Tipsy Tiki tour, enjoy restaurant stops at The Freezer (who are known for their fresh shrimp) or The Monkey Bar at Riverside Resort with a view of the monkeys on the island. Take a little cash on your trip as many of the smaller establishments do not accept credit cards.

On an Airboat Tour with Irish Dave, you are sure to see the sponges, dolphins and sea turtles and get a quick lesson on how to hunt for scallops. But hold on because in the no-wake zone the Airboat goes fast, weaving in and out of mangroves and high grasses!

Scallop season opened on July 1st and River Safaris has all the equipment and instructions you need to have a successful trip. Or if you prefer, Manatee Swim Tour season is November thru April! Any rentals or trips you purchase from River Safari will be discounted 10% if you mention Born To Ride!

Homosassa is also dubbed an area for “true biker bars” such as Mickey’s Bar & Grill, located just off Hwy 19 north of Homosassa River on the east side. Mickey’s has the best thin crust pizza & chicken wings, as well as Tony’s Famous Clam Chowder! Castaways is located on Hwy 19, west side. The coolest part of this bar is the owners Mike and Liz have their band and perform for their customers! They are known for their pot pie & chicken wings. And, of course, there is High Octane Saloon, where you will always find a good party and live music going on.

If you are a treasure hunter then Howard’s Flea Market Swap-O-Rama is definitely a must on your list.

The roads to ride in Homosassa are beautiful and plenty. Be sure to check out Ozello Trail.

If you need a motorcycle to ride, Crystal Harley-Davidson is at the heart of it all. Don’t miss Harley-Davidson’s huge UNDER THE TENT SWAP MEET on October 12, 2019. There will be live music by the Battle of the Bands winner! For more info contact Amy Moodie at 800-624-1910 x2350.
