Reverend Jim Testifies! Masters Bike Builders Show

Wow, what an opportunity that we’ve been presented here with the Master Bike Builder’s contest in Gibsonton, January 2019. They already have an existing event there, it’s been going on 16 years and there’s no other rally like it. We’re going to have a bike builders challenge. It happens during the Gibtown Bike Fest, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

We’ve broken it out so it can be as fairly judged as it can because we want all the bike builders to compete on an equal plane. So we’re not just saying your bike’s gotta shine or you gotta have this or you gotta have that. Every single person, regardless of whatever the class is, has a shot at winning our grand prize. And our grand prize is pretty impressive. You’re gonna get a really cool trophy that is custom made and it’s not made out of motorcycle parts or any of that. It’s built with aluminum, big cherry wood—solid cherry wood bases, they’re very impressive. You’re gonna win a cash prize, and that’s for everybody in all six of the classes, right!

In the end, the guy who scores the highest, regardless of what class he’s in, is the overall winner, and that guy is gonna get an opportunity to compete at the AMD qualifier (American Motorcycle Dealer Show). Depending on what city it’s hosted at, we will be paying for that trip. Bob Kay has already given us that authorization to do it, and that’s a big deal. Your entry is paid. You’re guaranteed that your bike will be accepted. And that’s one of them deals where not everybody gets accepted. I mean I’ve competed in the thing and it’s tough, so being accepted and guaranteed a spot, that says a lot for whatever you’ve built! If you win at the AMD Show, you go to Germany to compete.

We give you a transportation fuel allowance. Your hotel room is paid.

One of the things that’s important here is to remember that we’re only going to take 40 bikes. So we’re gonna send packs out to guys who really want to compete, be represented by BTR magazine, be filmed for BTR TV and in the end everybody’s going to be recognized as an elite bike builder. That’s what it’s all about.

So a lot of people say, “Well Jim, how do I find out about any of it?” Well, you just call up Born To Ride or visit www.MasterBuildersShow.com and you’ll be able to see the information that we’ll post up. You call them up or me 727-504-3138 and say, “I’d like to get a packet.” And we’ll send a packet right out to you. You get a wristband for the VIP party, we’ll have a buffet in there and of course, you know as you go along you have access to 30,000 or more people who are gonna be wandering through Gibtown Bikefest.

When you’re setting up that day we’re gonna give you free lunch. So far so good right? Free lunch, free VIP party, big venue, exposure, custom trophies, cash, and an opportunity to compete on the world stage. But first, you win our show then you win the National Show. Then if you’re lucky to go there and win, you go to Germany with Bob Kay AMD Show.

BTR: Forty builders in that and then there’s gonna be a Ride-in show both days.

Jim: Oh absolutely. Yeah, you gotta have the Ride-in show. It’s … and the reason it’s both days is that many of the shops are just like mine. On Saturday I’m working so I can go to the Ride-in show on Sunday. Some guys have Saturday off and they want to come in riding. You don’t have to be a builder. You don’t have to be anybody. You just got to have a really cool bike.

BTR: To have Bob Kay, who is an icon in the business and maybe you can tell people how powerful Bob Kay is? How his endorsement of our show is a stepping stone to his big show.

Jim: Well you know that it is powerful, exactly. Bob’s been around forever, worked with the AMX Expo in presenting the Championships of America show. Is involved with the biggest bike shows in the world, the AMD Challenge, and this is the guy who runs them. So when he puts enough faith in Born To Ride and what we’re doing with this show, I mean, for me alone, I’d like to be able to take that and frame it and put it on the wall. You know, because this guy is literally saying, “Hey we trust you enough that you’re gonna pick a bike that can compete with what we’re used to.” So, and even for the builders, I mean to get that opportunity, I think their National Championship for the AMD qualifier was in Cherokee this year. And to be able to receive that trip guaranteed with the possibility of going there and winning, wow! And then you get an all … I mean the possibility on that is endless, so for Bob Kay to be on board and give us that endorsement. You can’t say enough about that.

BTR: So what you’re saying is they’re gonna get a lot more than just a trip if they win or just being a part of it is going to be a great experience, wouldn’t you say?

Jim: Well I mean, the overall experience for the whole thing, from the start is … if I’m a bike builder and I am; I think somebody calls me up and says, “Listen I’m doing a big cash bike builder show. I’ll like you to be part of it.” That in of itself tells the builder that somebody cares. Then when you bring in an organization that qualifies a bike for the AMD … you’re gonna enter … and I guarantee you it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen before. So again, having that endorsement it’s a lot of stuff, man, so I’m hoping that one of our guys whoever we pick is the overall winner and goes up there and knocks it out of the park.
