FIFTH VICTORY FOR BAGNAIA IN AUSTRIA_MOTO2

Spielberg (Austria), August 12, 2018 – It was another incredible Sunday for Sky Racing Team VR46 the one that has just ended at the Austrian GP. Francesco Bagnaia and Luca Marini, in fact, give to the Team the second double podium of the year, the only teammates to have hit this result in 2018 in Moto2.

After a difficult start, with a contact with Quartararo and a small gap to mend from Oliveira, Pecco manages to set his pace and, tenth by a tenth, he arrives behind the Portuguese. In a two-way battle until the checkered flag, Bagnaia wins thanks to a great overtake at the last corner. With the points conquered today, the young rider of the Sky Racing Team VR46 returns on the top of the overall standings with an advantage of only three points.

On the podium, for the third consecutive time since Sachsenring, also Luca after a beautiful recovery from the tenth box of the starting grid. A protagonist of a three-way fight with Marquez and Pasini, he crosses the finishing line in third place and gives the Team the tenth podium of the season, re-opening the standings dedicated to the Team.
Every time it becomes harder to find the right words: Pecco won the race after a two-way battle and Luca hit the third podium in a row after an incredible recovery. I am satisfied with the great teamwork, the commitment, and efforts of all the guys on the team. As always, these results repay us, but we have not to lose concentration. We have taken the leadership of the World Championship, but it will be a point-by-point fight and with Luca, in these extraordinary conditions the Team title is an open question.

BagnaiaA great victory, another double podium for the Team and the leadership of the World Championship: I’m really happy, it was important to win because, since the start of the season, it’s the first time I’ve been fighting in a duel with Miguel. I had not a bad start, but at the first corner I had a contact with Quartararo, we both exceed the limits of the track and I immediately had a gap to reduce. I tried to get the tires back to right temperature and then I started pushing at 100% to close the gap. With Miguel I waited, I stayed focused and I studied his lines to be able to overtake him in the last two laps. Marini

A beautiful race and a great fight with Pasini and Marquez until the last corner: I had fun. I’m really happy because this morning I was in trouble with the rear tire. After the warm-up, we have analyzed the data and in the race, I was able to break harder than the others. The advice Franco (Morbidelli) give me was right! I tried to be constant, not to make mistakes and stay focused until the end. Thanks to all the guys of the Team, after yesterday’s crash, they did an incredible job to get me back on track and being competitive. With Pecco we have conquered another double podium and he has taken over leadership in the standings and now we have the possibility to further shorten the distances in the team championship.
