After yesterday’s pole position and an incredible fight for the victory until the last corner, Luca Marini celebrates the second place. Third Pecco Bagnaia after a more complicated weekend than we expected.

BRNO (CZECH REP.), August 5, 2018 – At the GP of the Czech Republic, the Sky Racing Team VR46 hits the first double podium in its Moto2 history with Luca Marini second and Pecco Bagnaia third. Thanks to the excellent Teamwork in the initial stages of the race, the young riders of Sky VR46 are protagonists in the fight for the victory till the checkered flag.
Marini, who started from the pole position, together with his team-mate, immediately tried to impose his rhythm to open the gap from their direct opponents. In the leading group throughout the race and protagonist of a series of beautiful overtaking, he starts the last lap in the first position. First till the last sector, in braking, he accidentally inserts the second gear and was forced to give the victory to Oliveira. For Luca, this is the second podium in his career after the third place at the Sachsenring.
Third, after a not easy weekend to manage, Pecco Bagnaia showed that in the first laps an excellent pace. After fighting with Baldassarri for the podium till the finishing line, he closed with 16 points and now is second in the overall standings, two points behind Oliveira (164 points).

It’s hard to find the words right now, I’m very happy and proud of these guys. The riders, the Team, and the technicians have done a great teamwork and today we managed to hit the podium with both. It is a satisfaction that pays us back of a lot of effort, but also an incentive to continue making sacrifices to back to the top of the Championship. It was a great race, lots of overtaking and one last incredible lap. Luca tried in every way to defend the P1 and even Pecco managed to be competitive after a difficult weekend.

It was a pity to lose the head of the Championship, but I’m happy with the podium after the Sachsenring race that did not end in the expected way. We worked a lot this weekend, I did not have the feeling I wanted on the front, I started to lose a lot of grip after a few laps, but this morning I tried a small change in the warm-up and I managed to be competitive. We were all very close, Balda was very aggressive in overtaking and I lost a lot of time. I tried to keep the pace of those in front of me and trying to recover in breaking. We have to continue in this direction and back as consistent as the first part of the season. As a team, we are growing and I am very happy also for Luca.

Francesco Bagnaia

I’m very happy: two podiums in a row and the first pole position of my career. I had fun, I made a lot of overtaking, the strategy studied by the Team has paid off and even physically my feelings are much better. One last crazy lap, I tried everything to overtake Miguel (Oliveira), I had a very aggressive style even if it is not in my characteristics. The last corner I gave the maximum, but I made a mistake, I put the second gear and Miguel overtook me. I have to thank Pecco, for his help, all the technicians, mechanics, Sky and the VR46 Riders Academy because we are doing an incredible job and we are proving to be a great Team.
