Annual awards recognize character and scholastic achievement among youth and young adult flat track racers

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association will announce the winners of its Fast Brain Award and Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award at the conclusion of the 2018 AMA Flat Track Grand Championship, which will be held in Springfield, Ill., May 29 to June 1.

Applications for the AMA Fast Brain Award and letters of intent for the AMA Flat Track Horizon Award are available at www.stevenaceracing.com and are due by May 28.

Funded by AMA Motorcycle Hall of Famer Bill Werner, Zanotti Racing’s Dave Zanotti and Bromley Motorsports, the AMA Fast Brian Award includes a $1,500 educational scholarship that benefits one young racer whose talent with the throttle is matched by his or her aptitude in the classroom.

“The AMA recognizes the importance of young riders doing their best both on-track and in the classroom,” said AMA Track Racing Manager Ken Saillant. “We appreciate the AMA Fast Brain Award sponsors who return year after year to support young flat track racer’s scholastic careers.”

In addition to the AMA Fast Brain Award, the racers compete for the Nicky Hayden AMA Flat Track Horizon Award. This award honors the amateur racer who is poised for success at the professional level.

“Nicky Hayden was as great a person as he was a motorcycle racer,” Saillant said. “He was the first winner of the AMA Horizon Award, and Nicky’s honesty, integrity, work ethic, competitiveness, talent, friendliness and professionalism are all qualities we look for in an AMA Horizon Award winner.”
