Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki Crew Ready for Tampa Debut
Corona, Calif. (February 21, 2018) – For the first time in almost 20 years, Monster Energy Supercross will drop the gate inside Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida, with Austin Forkner and Martin Davalos ready to bounce back from a tough opening weekend of the Eastern Regional 250SX championship. Tampa will provide its usual hot temperatures, which won’t bother either rider who train in similar conditions in the south.
In only his second season racing supercross, Forkner’s drive to be on the top step of the podium was apparent as he came through the pack on Saturday night. He’s eyeing his first-ever win this weekend, hoping to stay out of trouble on the first lap.
“I felt like the speed was there but got caught up on the first lap,” said Forkner. “Sometimes things are out of your control, but this week I’ll do what I can to be first to the first turn and ride my own race. It was nice to get that first race out of the way, no matter how it ended. Now we put our heads down and keep our eyes on that championship.”
Davalos was a man on a mission last weekend, earning the top qualifier position and taking a heat race win. After being taken out at the start of the main event, Davalos has been evaluated day-by-day and will be a race-day decision whether he will be able to line up for Round 2.
“It’s such a bummer to be in this spot after feeling so good coming into the weekend,” said Davalos. “It was all coming together until the first turn. I’ve done everything I possibly can to try and be ready for Round 2 but we’ll just have to wait and see on Saturday morning how I feel. If I have anything to say about it, I’ll be racing!”
Prior to Saturday’s race, the Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki riders will be signing autographs on Friday, February 23 from 6 – 7 p.m. at Barney’s Motorcycle and Marine Tampa location.
Saturday’s race from Raymond James Stadium will be broadcast live on FS1 or the FOX Sports GO app starting at 7 p.m. ET.
