2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame Inductee Peter Fonda
Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame announces the “Easy Rider” himself, Peter Fonda, as inductee into the 2017 class.
Peter Fonda, an American actor who started his acting career in the 60’s, is an icon of the counterculture of that time. In 1968, Fonda produced, co-wrote and starred in Easy Rider, which was his breakthrough role. Easy Rider is about two long-haired bikers traveling through the southwest and southern United States where they encounter intolerance and violence. Fonda played “Captain America,” a charismatic, iconic man whose motorcycle jacket bore a large American flag across the back.
“When you think of motorcycle legends, Peter Fonda always comes to mind. Easy Rider allowed not just motorcycle riders but people from all over to relate to the “search for freedom”. It is an honor for us to have Peter Fonda inducted into the 2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame. He has been such an influence in the motorcycle culture”, states Mindi Cherry, Vice President and Show Manager of Las Vegas BikeFest.
Fonda has continued his acting career throughout the decades in films such as Ulee’s Gold, where he was nominated for Best Lead Actor.
“I’m very honored to be inducted into the 2017 Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame. This couldn’t come at a better time with the 50th Anniversary of Easy Rider coming up”, says Fonda.
Las Vegas BikeFest, in partnership with Branscombe Richmond, launched the Las Vegas Motorcycle Hall of Fame at the 2016 rally. “The Hall of Fame is designed to honor the iconic ambassadors, influential heroes and people who put their interests above and beyond for the motorcycle community. This honor celebrates, illuminates and preserves the rich tradition of motorcycling in America”, says Cherry and Richmond, curators of the Hall of Fame.
A ceremony to honor the inductees will be held on Friday, October 6 during the 17th Annual Las Vegas BikeFest held in Downtown Las Vegas.
The 17th annual Las Vegas BikeFest will be held October 5 – 8, 2017 in the heart of downtown Las Vegas on Fremont East.
