The Peter Makris Memorial Run
Peter Makris Memorial Run’s 9th Year
Gets a New Start at Chrome Hill
Laconia Motorcycle Week Kickoff
Raises Funds for Local Charities
Laconia, NH – Do you hear the sounds of motors revving?! It is the sound of motorcycles across the country getting ready for Laconia Motorcycle Week’s 92nd year and its Official Kickoff, The Peter Makris Memorial Run, June 13, 2015.
The annual charity run that benefits the Laconia Fire Department Lifesaving Fund and Water Rescue Team and the Easter Seals NH Veterans Count program, among other local charities, starts and ends at the NASWA Resort on Weirs Boulevard, just blocks from Weirs Beach, the heart of the Laconia Rally.
This year, The NASWA Resort, The Official Hotel of Laconia Motorcycle Week, celebrating its 80th Anniversary, hosts a new venue, Chrome Hill, at one of its parking lots across the street from its hotel and restaurants. So, when riders arrive to line up for the run, they will be surprised by an array of vehicles, bikes and vendors that will add even more excitement to the start of this State Police escorted ride around Lake Winnipesaukee. Additional parking is available on the upper level parking lot as well.
The Peter Makris Memorial Run not only honors Peter Makris, the community leader, businessman, husband, father, US Marine Leatherneck motorcycle club member and patriarch of the NASWA Resort, it also honors the things that made him the happiest. Makris loved seeing people enjoy themselves at his family and biker owned and friendly resort, riding the scenic roads of the Lakes Region with friends and helping his community be more successful and safer.
“When hundreds of riders converge here each year, we know our father is in heaven smiling and we are happy to be here carrying on in his name!” says Cynthia Makris, who has run the resort with her sisters and mother, Hope, since Peter passed away 9 years ago, “He loved having a party and this one is for him!” she adds. Riders received a T-shirt, a bountiful breakfast and gourmet lunch in addition to the ride, which culminate in a daylong party with live music, auctions, raffles and drink promotions at the NAZBar & Grill on the NASWA Resort’s private beach. “We throw in a chip for a free beer on Peter!” laughs Cynthia, “He’d like that!”
This charity ride is one of the premier events of the Laconia Rally for its longevity, its local benefit, which to date has raised over $275,000 for charity, and for the top-quality and quantity of the food and fun provided. Forget the average biker fare of hamburgers and hot dogs– InFusion Sales Group, an original sponsor, has each year planned a menu that keeps riders coming back for more-and more. Seeing the small quaint towns, shimmering lakes and scenic countryside without traffic light stops is another key advantage. The “feet-up” escort enables riders to truly appreciate and enjoy the ride and all for $40 early registration, $50 at the event and $75 for VIP, front-of-pack riding. Early registration is recommended to secure a t-shirt, designed by artists at UhlWorks, of David Uhl Studios. Sponsorships are also welcomed.
