PICKERINGTON, Ohio — For many American Motorcyclist Association members, the greatest competitive journey of their lives begins this weekend when the first AMA Area Qualifiers for the 2014 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, kick off.

The AMA Area Qualifiers, the first step to earning a spot at the gate for a shot at a national title, will qualify riders for 12 AMA Regional Championships. Riders who excel on the regional level will be invited to compete at the July 27 to Aug. 2 national event in Hurricane Mills, Tenn.

“All amateur motocross racers aspire to one day line up at the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships, and the first step to that goal is success at an AMA Area Qualifier,” said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. “This weekend, the journey to the nationals will begin with the first AMA Area Qualifiers of 2014. Our members will see how dedicated we are to offering a premium program at the country’s best tracks, and I can’t wait to see the best amateur motocross racers start competing for the right to race at the national.”

The AMA’s promoting partner for the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship, presented by AMSOIL, is MX Sports. MX Sports has been successfully promoting the national since 1982.

“This is our favorite time of the year as racers all around the country are gearing up for their quest to get to the 2014 Rocky Mountain ATV/MC AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship,” said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter. “The adventure starts this weekend in Arizona and continues throughout the summer. We are looking forward to the race season ahead and all the excitement it will bring.”

Riders from all across the country compete in the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship qualifier program. Classes are available for competitors from 4 years old to 50-plus on a range of motorcycles, including 50cc minibikes to state-of-the-art highly modified 450cc motocross machines.

“Our qualifier schedule is one of the strongest and most balanced that we have ever produced, and we thank MX Sports for their cooperation and assistance in working hard to develop a strong program from bottom to top,” Bigelow added.

The AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship qualifying system and the finale in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., represent the premier amateur motocross program in America. Nearly every professional racer competing in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship made it to the pro ranks through the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championship.
