SHAYNA TEXTER LOOKS TO TAKE THE CHECKERED AT THE LAW TIGERS AMA PRO FLAT TRACK FINALS

Published on October 11, 2013 under Born To Ride LifeStyle

AMA Pro Racing GNC Mile, Springfield, IL 8-31-2013Pomona, CA … When the Green Flag signals the start of the Law Tigers AMA Pro Flat Track Finals, brought to you locally by Pomona Valley Harley-Davidson and Glendale Harley-Davidson, October 12 at the Fairplex, Shayna Texter will be looking to score her third Pro Singles victory of the season.

Standing just 5 feet tall and weighing in at 95 lbs., Shayna Texter doesn’t fit the average picture of a flat track racer. But one look at her skill on the track and you will see that she isn’t just your average competitor, she is far better than that. In fact she is great. This is evidenced by her earning the distinction of being the first woman in the 50 year history of AMA Grand National racing to ever win a GNC Pro Singles Main Event.

And, not only has this talented 21-year-old taken top honors at one race, she has earned three additional victories last season – The Sacramento Mile, the Knoxville Half-Mile and the Tucson Half-Mile. This year, she again won the AMA Pro Sacramento Mile and the Indy Mile.

A native of Pennsylvania, Texter comes from a racing family. Her late father and grandfather both raced and so does her brother Cory. Her love of racing actually began in 2003 after she spent the beginning of the season watching her brother race and decided she wanted to give it a try. And, from the beginning, not only was obvious she was hooked, but it was also apparent that she was extremely talented.

“I started off on a TTR-125 which definitely didn’t have a lot of horsepower,” smiles Texter. “After a couple of races I figured I was ready to move it up a notch and I began racing a YZ 85. It did the trick and I began making my way in the two-wheeled world.”

Truth be known, this young lady did more than begin to make her way into the two-wheeled world. That very first season, she won every 85 and 100cc race she entered and dominated the local women’s class races.

Continuing her climb up the ladder of success Texter competed in numerous amateur championships for the next four years. Scoring a long list of victories and championships, Texter earned the distinction of being named 2006 AMA Female Rider of the year, an honor given to the best female rider in any discipline of motorcycle racing.

Turning pro in 2007, Texter has continued to move up and has added more and more accolades and victories, including two more AMA Pro Singles wins at Sacramento and another first at Knoxville. In addition she earned the 2010 AMA Most Dedicated Rider Award and the 2011 AMA Most Outstanding Performance Award.

“Being the first female to win an AMA Pro Singles was totally awesome,” says Texter. “It took awhile for it to really sink in. I had to go back and re-watch the video to make sure it wasn’t a dream. One of the things I will never forget is coming around Turn Four in Knoxville after taking the Checkered and the entire expert field was standing there congratulating me. It meant so much to me.”

Off the track, Texter is constantly on the go

“In addition to racing,” she says, “I also attend the California University of Pennsylvania and am majoring in sports management. When not in school, I work on my bikes, getting them ready from week to week. Any other spare time I have is spent with my family. They’re a big part of who I am and my sister is into full time gymnastics and my brother is into full time wrestling, so I’m always there supporting them as much as I can, attending every single one of their events during the off season. That’s who I am. I’m about racing and I’m about family.”

A hard charger from the word go, Shayna Texter has more than proven herself and there is no doubt that she will continue her winning ways.

Be sure and cheer this incredible rider on to victory at this year’s last race of AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&P Cycles.

Adding more action, will be the inaugural Super Long Track Speedway Bike Invitational. The exhibition from 2012 was a fan favorite, so it has been brought it back as a thrilling addition to the evening’s schedule, complete with heats and a Main.

And that is not all. Scheduled from 3pm-6pm is the Gasser Customs Vintage Ride-In and Show & Shine. Ride your vintage bike ride and enjoy free parking right in front plus take part in the vintage bike show! Awards will be given for the best of the best but all bikes in any shape or condition are welcome to participate. If you enjoy vintage bikes, you will want to see this show.

Another highlight will be the Ascot Reunion which will take place inside the gates to the event near the Legends Autograph section from 3:00 pm to 6:30 pm … Come out and see some bikes from the ASCOT era, meet and hear stories by the riders who made ASCOT.

Come early and hear the live music, visit the vendor’s area and watch practice. It will definitely be a day to remember and the event not to be missed.
