Atlantic Art Center Summer Camp

 

June 11 – August 9, 2013 (Tuesday – Friday, 9 AM – 2 PM)

8 weekly art camps for ages 6-12

 

Atlantic Center for the Arts’ Summer Art Camp is held at ACA’s Community Arts Center at Harris House, in our Yurick Studios. Each weekly session  features three classes designed to give participants an opportunity to explore ideas of art and culture through a variety of art forms.  Click here for full session descriptions and to register.

 

Session 1: June 11 – 14

• France and Impressionism with Cathy Berse – Miss Cathy will take the children on an adventure to France where they will do some Plein Aire painting outside, create sculptures and make a passport book.

•Celebrating China with Martha Lent- Learning about the people, arts and culture of China, the children will explore the Chinese zodiac and make a snake to celebrate 2013 as the Year of the Snake. They’ll also make a paper collage lantern and dragon.

•China and Tai Chi with Shane Jones- It’s a mystery, but Shane gets the kids quiet and focused on the practice of this ancient Chinese movement. They love it.

 

Session 2: June 18 – 21

• Vessels from Around the World with Shelley Niswonger – Using bowls, plates and papier maché the students will make vases based on different styles from around the world.

•The Art of South Africa with Shy Morris ACA Community Artist – The students will create beautiful South African necklaces and bracelets using recycled t-shirts, cans, plastic bottles and an assortment of beads and gems.

•Latin Movement with Amber Johnson Surfscape Dancer – Amber will lead the campers on an exploration of Latin music and movement during his class that will be fun for all.

 

Session 3: June 25 – 28

• The Amazon Rainforest with Shy Morris ACA Community Artist – Inspired by the wildlife of the rainforest, students will create flowers, vibrant fish and butterflies using all recycled materials.

•Houses Around the World with Nicole Yatulis New Teacher – Kids will learn about different dwelling types from around the world. Using their imaginations they will create their own blueprints for a house using the cyanotype process.

•African Drums with Yvette Hartley – Always a favorite, Miss Yvette gets them playing and swaying to the rhythm of the drums of Africa.
