2012 AMA Hare Scrambles Vintage Grand Championships
Spectro Performance Oils is Presenting Sponsor of AMA Vintage Hare Scrambles Grand Championships
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The AMA is pleased to welcome Spectro Performance Oils as the presenting sponsor of the 2012 AMA Hare Scrambles Vintage Grand Championships, taking place at AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days July 20-22 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio.
“The AMA Hare Scrambles Vintage Grand Championships, presented by Spectro Performance Oils, brings classic off-road racing to the coolest vintage motorcycling destination on the planet: AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days,” said AMA Director of Operations Jack Penton. “We’re excited that Spectro Performance Oils, a leading motorsports oil company with a rich history that dates to the days when vintage bikes were current, is coming on board to support this event as well as the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, which receives all proceeds from the AMA Vintage Grand Championships.”
The AMA Hare Scrambles Vintage Grand Championships, presented by Spectro Performance Oils, features skill-, age- and displacement-based classes for vintage, post-vintage and non-current motorcycles. The event draws everyone from first-time competitors to some of the country’s best vintage racers. Sign up is available now at www.amavintagemotorcycledays.com > Register to Race.
“Few things are as fun as hopping on your dirtbike and going for a ride in the woods,” said Spectro Performance Oils’ Ken Ciocci. “The AMA Hare Scrambles Vintage Grand Championships, presented by Spectro Performance Oils, take that fun to a whole new level with the low-pressure atmosphere of vintage racing. We’re looking forward to seeing everybody at the races.”
Mandi Mastin, a member of the U.S. Women’s World Cup team at the 2012 International Six Days Enduro, is laying out the hare scrambles course and running operations at the event. Mastin said there will be some fun changes this year for return riders.
“We are being creative and working on making a couple of changes to the course,” Mastin said. “For the riders who race each year, it is important that we make some changes to the course so that they can expect something a bit different.”
With proceeds supporting the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame, AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days is the country’s premier celebration of vintage motorcycles and motorcycling heritage. In addition to the AMA Hare Scrambles Vintage Grand Championships, the event includes the AMA Motocross Vintage Grand Championships, presented by Moto Armory, amateur national championship roadracing, trials and dirt-track racing in vintage classes. The weekend also features North America’s largest motorcycle swap meet, the AMA Classic Field Meet Challenge, bike shows, demo rides of current street and off-road motorcycles, and seminars on a number of topics by noted motorcycling experts.
This year’s AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days will celebrate the classic “Rockers and Mods” two-wheeled subculture that is experiencing a popular resurgence in America. Activities will shine a spotlight on British cafĂ©-racer motorcycles and Italian metal-bodied scooters made popular by the self-described Rockers and Mods of the early 1960s.
The grand marshal this year is AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame member and noted designer Craig Vetter, whose contributions to motorcycling range from the iconic Windjammer fairings and the Triumph X-75 Hurricane to the Mystery Ship limited-production, high-performance motorcycles and a number of high-profile motorcycle fuel-economy contests.
