"DREAM RIDE '99"
ENORMOUS
A Big SUCCESS
by: Radio Bob

Over 900 motorcycle enthusiasts came out in support of the Daytona Beach Harley Owners Group 3rd Annual "'Dream Ride '99" held on Sunday June 6th.

"This may have been the largest organized club benefit Poker Ride in all of Central Florida", Local H.O.G. Chapter director Gary Folsom stated. Sign up was held at the Harley Dealership, followed by a 69.2 mile ride into Flagler County and back to the Riverdeck Restaurant in South Daytona.

The "Rhythm Sharks Blues Band" played on the deck overlooking the Halifax River all afternoon, as Gary Folsom and staff organized the fund raising events including the Wheel of Fortune, Dunk Tank, raffle, auction and 50/50 which brought in $1,048.00 alone ... one of the biggest, if not the biggest 50/50 anybody there had ever heard of. This years ride attracted members of several area motorcycle clubs,

Ed Carroll & Sandy (V.P. Blue Knights)
including the C.M.A., Blue Knights, Daytona 200, and the Daytona Beach Chapter FL1-H of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association, which won recognition for having the most members from a participating motorcycle club. Irene. Harrison, Director said, "It was the 1st time we've been invited to a H.O.G. Ride ... we all had a wonderful time, everyone on the stops were very gracious and pleased to see us".
The Lake County H.O.G. Chapter won for the largest H.O.G. Folsom said, the large turnout was due to members of his club getting the word out by putting flyers out everywhere they went in the weeks leading up to the ride-and all the great public service announcements on W.H.O.G., 95.7 f.m.

Mike Wolper, Victoria McGuirk & Ron Martin
WHOG Radio's, Boss Jock, Frank Scott and Mike Wolpert as well as Ron Martin of Full Throttle Magazine came out to support the ride and hung out on the back deck with the riders, and donated several of those much sought after WHOG Tee-Shirts you see everywhere for the "Wheel of Fortune" to help raise money for "A Childs Dream".
All of the money raised on this ride, over $9,000 will be presented to "A Childs Dream" which makes dreams come true for terminally ill children in both Volusia and Flagler Counties. The Director of "A Childs Dream", Victoria McGuirk said, "The turnout was fantastic, no matter what brand of bike, or what club their with, they all came out for Robby and his family, everyone had a wonderful time".
Robby, a cute 5 year old with a big grin, has/Leukemia and wants to take his two sisters, and his parents to Disney World and go on all the rides and maybe even meet "Mickey Mouse", on his birthday this fall.

Dunk TankGary Folsom, spokesman for the H.O.G. Chapter stated, "There were over $5,000 in prizes and services donated for the event, everything from the coffee and donuts at signup, to the dunk tank from Dolly's Fun Toys, which was a HUGE hit with the bikers this year. Each of the clubs that participated, were asked for a "volunteer" to take a turn in the "Dunk Tank"...our "In the Tank" award goes to C.M.A. President, Tom "Gator" Kriner, Blue Knights President Gene Frank, Gold Wing Safety Director Rance "Smitty" Smith, Daytona 200 Club President George Comeau ... and of course HOG Director Gary Folsom, who all pitched in to help out. Chris Warren and Diane who are with "Born To Ride" TV. came by to film all the festivities ... be sure to check your local listings and watch for it on your local cable channel. Special "THANKS" to the Harley-Davidson Dealership for their help again this year, and to RLH Insurance who were nice enough to pick up the tab on this years "Dream Ride '99" Ride Pin for the first 300 who signed up. Folsom also wanted to thank all the Daytona HOG Members who volunteered, and came out to support the run.
