American Motorcyclist Association Encourages all Motorcyclists to Ride to Work on Monday

PICKERINGTON, Ohio — The American Motorcyclist Association is encouraging all motorcyclists to participate in the 24th Annual International Motorcycle and Scooter Ride to Work Day on June 15 to demonstrate the practical benefits of our favorite form of transportation.
“Motorcyclists already know how much fun it is to ride and how easy motorcycles and scooters are to maneuver in traffic and to park,” said Rob Dingman, AMA president and CEO. “Ride To Work Day helps call attention to our way of life and gives us a chance to share our enthusiasm with non-riders.”

Andy Goldfine, who started the event and is the 2015 event organizer, said Ride To Work Day is intended to “seek employer recognition and support for this form of transportation and increased public and government awareness of the societally positive benefits of utility riding.”

Goldfine hopes the event triples the number of motorcyclists and scooter riders commuting to work.

A 2011 study in Brussels by Transport & Mobility Leuven concluded that if 10 percent of cars on the roads of Belgium were replaced with motorcycles, exhaust emissions would fall 6 percent and traffic congestion would be reduced by 40 percent.

“Motorcyclists also can use the opportunity to highlight important issues, such as distracted drivers, motorcycle-only checkpoints, health-insurance discrimination, parking restrictions and the benefits of legal lane splitting,” Dingman said. “Commuting to work, especially on a designated day of rider unity like this, highlights the positive aspects of motorcycling and the motorcycle lifestyle.”

The event is always the third Monday in June. Ride to Work Day is a nonprofit organization. More information is available at www.ridetowork.org.
