PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Amateur motocross racers in Southern California will have a spring break to remember this April 4-7. Hesperia’s Competitive Edge Motocross Park will host the first FMF California Classic, an AMA-sanctioned event that will establish a tradition for great racing, excellent track conditions and top-level talent.

“With amazing weather, great track conditions and a welcoming atmosphere, Southern California offers some of the best motocross racing in the country, and springtime is one of the best times of the year to race here,” said AMA Motocross Manager Kip Bigelow. “We expect a large crowd at the AMA-sanctioned FMF California Classic. I can’t think of a better way to spend your spring break than ripping around a motocross track.”

The race will be promoted by 2xpromotions, run by Myron Short and Mike Colbert.

“This AMA event will be the new spring break classic for years to come,” Colbert said. “We picked Competitive Edge to hold the first annual for all the fun it provides with long laps, a big starting gate and typically great spring weather. Racers love the layout of this track with racing lines everywhere.

“We are planning a good time with tons of moto, great food, plenty of parking and overnight camping,” Colbert said. “Come join us for the first of what will become an annual event and say you were there.”

Practice is Thursday, April 4, with racing Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Pre-entry is $55 and open through Tuesday, April 2. Post-entry is $65. Prize bags and trophies will be presented to class placers, with class winners receiving event titles. Entry is now open at 2xpromotions.com.

AMA Motocross includes the country’s best amateur motocross events, including the AMA Amateur National Motocross Championships. Launched by the AMA in 1975 and today promoted by MX Sports at Loretta Lynn’s Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tenn., the AMA Amateur Motocross Nationals are one of the most successful and longest-running amateur motorsports championships in the country. The AMA Motocross calendar also includes premier state, district and regional series and championships, as well as standalone local events that draw thousands of amateur racers every weekend. In addition, the AMA Pro-Am Motocross schedule is where the country’s top amateur talent earns points toward professional licenses in the sport.
