MILITARY & MOTORCYCLES – SEPTEMBER 28, 2012

Blind or Misguided Reporting

Four years ago, I attended the John McCain Rally at Robart’s Sports Arena in Sarasota. Thursday I attended the Mitt Romney campaign at Ringling Art Museum in Sarasota. What I found to be interesting as I nestled myself among the mainstream media folks from local and national venues was the coverage. In front of the museum, there were approximately 45 protesters, which seemed to glean a large amount of TV and print time verses the large crowd of Romney supporters. At one point while I was on the roadway in front of the museum, one of the protesters crossed the street and became confrontational with a Manatee Tea Party member, which didn’t end well for the protester.

Thursday evening and Friday morning, I watched and read the accounts from all of the local media sites and the numbers of those in attendance differed greatly from what I actually saw. The number of supporters numbered anywhere from ‘several hundred’ to ‘several thousand’ according to reports. My personal estimate of the crowd would have been 4,000 to 5,000 minimum.

Those in attendance were mostly older folks such as me due to the time and day the event occurred. The heat was a problem and many folks had to be helped by EMTs and Fire Personnel due to humidity and heat.

Security was that of what could be expected entering an airport, pockets emptied, metal detectors and wanding if necessary. The Secret Service personnel on sight were easy to deal with, as were the local law enforcement personnel.

All in all the campaign stop went well and all in attendance had the opportunity to listen to Governor Romney and his pledge to better America. It still amazes me how biased or confused the mainstream media seems to be.
